Weekend House Hunting - 02/23/13

After taking a break for visiting family last weekend, "weekend house hunting" continues with the newest listings for the week in Western Monmouth County!  This week saw some great additions to much needed housing inventory in the categories of adult communities, condominiums, and single family homes (click on links to see the rosters).

Among these you will find a terrific investment opportunity for a flip or rent in The Villages, a spacious Sandburg colonial in my childhood stomping grounds of West Freehold, and  this Poet's Corner charmer, which comes in as a runner up to my new listing (scroll to the previous post) as the most tastefully staged home I've seen this week!

Happy hunting, and give me a shout if you'd like to learn more about these or similar properties.  Check back in over the weekend too for a quick missive on one of my new favorite restaurants in the area (hint: I was craving a Cohiba after the meal).

Thinking Spring In The Calm Before The Storm

Today, after a light bit of early morning panic shopping to prepare for the forecasted noreaster, I met with the landscaper that we will very likely be hiring this Spring.  We're planning a patio in the back yard, as well as front and backyard landscapes.

Preliminary Presentation for land and hardscapes.  TIP: ALWAYS check with your municipality for setbacks and variances regarding fences, additions, patios and decks, and be sure to secure the proper permits prior to construction.  Keep copies of all your permits on file for when you sell to avoid complications.  File them next to clean, to-scale copies of your site survey which will need for most construction permits!

Creative Designs is a local company started by Manalapan resident Justin Tal, who has already installed shrubbery and beds for us along the side of our fence.  Following his dad's footsteps into the landscaping business, Justin earned his degree in horticulture at Rutgers and is quickly building an incredibly impressive resume throughout Manalapan.  One such project is across the street from me where I'm able to admire it on a daily basis!  Although a preliminary presentation, the sketches were accompanied by images on the ipad.  They also offer 3d renderings and CAD drawings for an additional fee, well worth it if you'd like to see your complete vision prior to committing.  I was very impressed, and the thought of the project now has me thinking towards spring on this otherwise wet and windy day.  Give Justin at Creative Designs a call at 732-995-2016 to discuss your landscaping projects and book in time for spring. Don't forget to tell him Tim sent you!

Freehold, NJ "My Home Town"

When I got in to real estate I didn't see myself having the time to blog, and to a large extent the exciting pace of the business that I'm falling more in love with every day has seen the fulfillment of this prophecy.  I thought to myself "Oh, you can just post whatever you want to say to Facebook, or Tweet and move on".  Then, last week, I found myself about to update my Facebook Realtor page with a random picture of an historical building in Downtown Freehold, NJ that I pass every day I go in to the office.  What I thought was going to be a sentence or two about the building, it's historical significance, and how it ties in with real estate law was far exceeding 130 characters here we are (and I hope you're still reading!) at the point where I've realized that my followers' experience on Facebook and Twitter might actually be enhanced by the addition of a blog.

Being my first post, I feel it necessary to say a quick bit about myself and outline the goals of my blog.  So, without further ado, I'm Timothy (Tim) O'Rourke, and I'm a RE/MAX Realtor with the obligatory head-shot to prove it...

Born and raised in NJ, I spent most of my years in Freehold Township where I graduated high school and lived before moving to the Big Apple to finish college in 1994.  I called the city home for almost 18 years, most of them spent working in the interior design field and enjoying all that NYC has to offer.  Fast forward to 2012 and after many great years in the big city I decided to get back to my roots and enjoy a slower paced lifestyle, closer to family.  My partner Jim and I pulled up stakes in Brooklyn, loaded the wagon with Thorin & Olive and Cleo & Pinky(rip) (our two Welsh Corgis and cats) and headed to the country.  I'm thrilled to be living in Manalapan and working at RE/MAX Homeland REALTORS in Freehold - "my hometown".

As to this blog, and I'll make this quick and then close, you will see over time that my goal is simply to post a balance of useful and relevant real estate information as well as lifestyle and recreation interests in and around Monmouth County, hence the title of "Monmouth County Living".  Thank you for reading, and I hope you'll check in often!
